You're right Heather,
It is quite interesting when you process your fiber in a small scale. It is wonderful for the cottage industry. We all love it.
But we have to focus on commercial processing on a large scale, and that's where you can run into problems, because if your fiber is "contaminated" it all goas into the grays. Now, would you like to see only gray yarns and textile being offerd on the market? I don't think so.  ;o)  This is why on the large scale we have to adjust our breeding programs to eliminate as much contamination as possible.
