Re: [AlpacaTalk] nutritional needs

Kathy,

We free-feed our female and baby alpacas good-quality orchard grass hay,
but you can also feed them timothy hay. We give the girls pellets (there
are many different brands out there) at the rate of 1/2 cup of alpaca pellets
per alpaca, per day. They boys and guard llama just get fed hay twice a day
and no daily pellets or they get too fat. Whenever people come over to visit
them (rarely), we give the alpacas a treat by giving each person a bucket
with a few cups of pellets and let them feed them by hand so they can get up
close. We also treat them with baby carrots, they love those.

I am hoping someone could give me a list of nutritional needs and supplement
(feed and vitamins) Alpaca's should have and how much. Or a web site that
has a descriptive list of these. Thank you, Kathy
