Re: [AlpacaTalk] aborted twins - 96 days gestation

hi - i have a Rockamundo son who i haven't bred yet and a colored grandson i haven't bred yet (who also has Pantera, Tell Hot Shot, NGG Lional,CPeruvian Ultima and 4Peruvian Accoyo Juliaca in his genetic background) - i also have a white grandson who sires outstanding crias, and always to the dam's color ( the grandson is half-chilean) - i have three granddaughters and a great granddaughter and great grandson -

this past year i had to bring in some other bloodlines, including a full Bolivian male and a Guillermo grandson.

I having only been breeding for two years (this will be our third) and i really enjoy researching the bloodlines and traits - i also enjoy hearing about other breeders' bloodlines so thanks for sharing such interesting information with the rest of us.

Ooooooo, Rockamundo! I would so love to breed my girls to him! Or to a
son! A few years ago there was a Rockamundo son for sale for like
$500.... but he was half Chilean and I really wanted full Bolivian.
Well, someone else bought him who also saw his potential and he's now
out of my price range!

Our weather is usually fairly mind, although the last couple of years,
the weather was very cold, and this year we had snow, twice! Which is
very rare. The second snowfall we got was in April! This fall, already
is pretty cold, getting down to almost freezing overnight. That also is
not normal for this area.

Our shelters are basically smallish pole barns with no-climb fence to
make stalls. In the winter we put up plastic to keep the rain out and
the warmth in. It works quite well. This year we're putting up framed
plexiglass panels on the walls. That 6 mil plastic sheeting just looks
so trashy! In fact, we'll have to put the panels up pretty soon, the
cold and rain has already started. *sigh*

I think I've decided to breed my girl to my mom's boy Infinity, son of
MMR Tofino, who is a son of Ivano. We have our first cria from him, and
does she have fabulous fleece! And presence, and conformation, and
density, and even the full fibered face. I just don't think I can go
wrong there! She was bred to our boy's sire previously, and he's now
quite a nice herdsire himself. My girl is a grand-daughter of Casanova
II, her sire is DHH Major. Her full brother is a champion in Germany.
And she has thrown only black, while being bred to only white and
fawns. So my poor Scirocco will have to wait another year for some
work.

Late term miscarriages are very tough on the dams. They do tend to be a
bit aggressive to other crias if they've lost theirs.
