[AlpacaTalk] Nasal Membrane in New Born

Hello All

It has been a while since I have been here. I am in need of the
collective brain.

My one and only cria was born on Monday. The birth was not easy. It
was approximately 4 hours long. I had to reposition the cria. She
only presented her left foot. Needless to say her little head was
against the right side of her body. Got her all situated and the Dam
got her out with one big push. The dam is 200 lbs and the cria was
12.4. Needless to say there was not time for her to hang and drain
her fluids. So I did it. Got fluid out of the nasal and mouth. She
is having difficulty breathing with her mouth closed. (I am hoping
that not ever one responds with CA)

We got her up and nursing with assistance and she eats like there is
no tomorrow. She is actually gaining .25 lb or better EVERY day. NO
weight loss from day 1 to day 2

She does hold her breath to eat and she sound like a snot nosed kid
when she humms.

Took her to the Vet Monday evening. Had a chest x-ray done...no
pneumonia but we put her on Nuflor just to be safe. My Vet seems to
think that a membrane at the back of the nasal cavity did not
dissolve prior to birth and she thinks that it will given enough
time. As a massage therapist I recognize that her facial and cranial
bones are a little bit out of alignment and I started to work on them
as soon as I could. I can see that the structure of the face has
changed quite a bit in the last few day.

On Tuesday evening about 4:30 she began to drain a white/clear fluid
out of the left nasal cavity. This continued for 24 hours. She now
can breath with her mouth closed while resting or exploring. If she
exercises..pronks...she needs to mouth breath and she still holds her
breath while nursing.

Is there anyone out there that has had experience with nasal
membranes that have not dissolved before birth?????
