Re: [AlpacaTalk] gucky eyes
Hi Wendy,
What a pleasure it is to be discussing something else! It sounds like
you are doing the right thing with cold tea, but you could add a drop of
Rosemary essential oil (you will only need one drop of rosemary for
about 100ml of cold tea). I find this works wonders with regular
applications for a few days, for anything to do with eyes. I don't know
what it is, but it sounds like whatever the condition, it is
contagious! It looks like in the first instance you will need to be
treating all your animals (at least 2 times a day) to get on top of it,
and secondly get some advice from your vet. Hopefully someone else on
the list will also have an idea as to what exactly the problem is and
have some further suggestions. It might be worth keeping treatment as
simple as possible for a few days, so you will be able to tell what is
working for future reference.
Just be careful with the rosemary essential oil that you do not get it
actually in the eye, but rather wipe with clean cotton wool soaked in
the tea and rosemary around and over the eye (just not actually in it).
Use a clean piece of cotton wool for each wipe (since it is contagious)
and be careful to change gloves for each animal treated.
Good luck and I hope this helps
Best Wishes
