One time the husband of the woman with the llama farm that I used to take my
alpacas for her to shear said my male needed his fighting teeth cut off and he
proceeded to "cowboy" them off with something like this.....a wire between 2
handles. It was awful. The smell, the smoke from the friction.....it was
very stressful for my boy and it had to hurt like the dickens.
I've never done or had anything done to their teeth since.

My 4 have all grown long in the tooth, but I can't imagine using this
technique to trim teeth. He sawed the fighting teeth off at the gum line (we ended
up with an abscess jaw after that btw).
Are you saying that you found some other sort of tooth trimming equipment
other than this wire with handles?

Exactly! I have always assumed that alpaca farms are lush and have plenty of
money. Not so here. I don't take myself to the doctor as I have no
insurance and cannot afford medical care. I think about that every time I have to
fork over hundreds of dollars for vet care that I am less than satisfied with.
