Re: [AlpacaTalk] Fw: trimming feet etc, trimming teeth
I did mention that the only reason I had to use a lot of force was
because our wire is so old and not very sharp any more. New wires cut
very quickly without the need for excessive force. And the incisors are
very easy to cut, though it can be tricky to get started. I find that
stroke or two of a more downward angle can get the cutting started,
then you change the angle to a more natural angle on the toothline.
As for fighting teeth, we don't usually have any erupting at age 1,
usually they are just starting to come in at age 2 and the dremel will
take off tht pointy tip. By age 3 there is more tooth exposed and
either the wire or the dremel will take it off. It is true that you do
need to keep checking as they do get more sets of fighting teeth as
they mature. ANd I also have found that even though you may have taken
to off a tooth in the past, it will keep growing and the edges are
razor sharp, so they must be monitored and re-trimmed yearly or every
couple of years. We keep an eye on fighting teeth on our boys
constantly, but usually only have trim on a yearly basis, and not
everyone will need trimming every year.
