The one alpaca I have that likes to stand in the water buckets took over the
wading pool I have out for the ducks. She just stretches out (best she can)
and lolls around all day. Just too funny! The others are not interested
however. I tried several years ago putting out sprinklers but they would not go
near them. When I first started hosing them down this summer they would all run
away except this one female who likes to stand in the water. It didn't take
long for them all one by one to come for their shower as well. Before long
they for fighting for their place in line. The makes stand in the peeing
position and flip their tails up - they like to have their privates cooled off I
guess.
And yes they delight me every time my eyeballs get to rest on them I never
tire of staring at them. My one gelding, the baby that was paralyzed and could
not walk the first several days of his life, my only living baby, who is now
about 5 yrs old - he likes to dance on his hind legs. He will just stand
right up on them and waltz around. It is just TOO funny and cute. And he is not
small by any means. He is the largest alpaca I have ever seen (tho he was
small weak and puny when born), easily as large and larger than a most llamas.
To see him dancing around like that - well I just have to get my camcorder out
there and catch it on film one of these days!
Warmly, Janice
