I purchased the 3 button shirt for my husband and he is very impressed with it. Someone on here brought our attention to the alpaca garments at Lands End. No matter where they are made the first thing is to get americans used to wearing alpaca products. If we all bought one shirt per farm and were able to show it off to other consumers it would in fact start the ball rolling. For the domestic industry to get up off the ground there has to be demand.

Look at the label. Where were the products from Land's End made?

China is the world's biggest buyer of alpaca fiber at present. But,
anyone following the news know that China is quickly taking over the
textile industry. Deb Hill has shared some sobering figures regarding
this.

So, there is not a simple answer to the question. Promoting alpaca, in
a general way, is helping the future of the industry. It is arguable
if buying alpaca (or cashmere, or mohair, or...) made in China is
doing much to lay the necessary foundations for the domestic industry.
Consumer awareness is good. Consumer expectations of low prices and
inconsistant quality is perhaps not as good. The latter seems to be
the strategy of Asian textiles in general, and China in particular.
