For those of you interested there is a great place in the US called altiplano insulations. This company makes vests, jackets, capes, and all types of heavy duty outerwear for the outdoor hiking backpacking community. He uses 100% llama and his site stresses the advantages of llama over down and synthetic. He evidently has a very good thriving market and the best news is that most of his customers are non- llama people. They are the outdoors bunch - hikers, etc. His prices may be considered high by some, but everyone I know who has purchased his vests ot jackets just love them. So, here is an example of a very viable, profitable business specializing in llama fiber. The only problem he has is that he can't get the quantity in teh US, so last I heard he in importing everything from SA. It would be worth it for the folks interested in a commercial fiber market to chjeck it out - at www.altiplano insulations. com.

Did you think to ask this processor whether they offer alpaca fiber and if
not, why? Seems like an easy way to promote alpaca to me.

Got to admit that I get a kick out of asking places like LL Bean, Gander
Mtn., etc. if they carry any alpaca products. When they say no, I
politely say something like, "Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. I really love
how soft and warm alpaca is. Oh well, thanks anyway." If they get enough
requests for the products, they'll start to carry some. Then we can work
on getting them to carry American made....
