[Alpacasite] Ok... let the cook out begin! or What's that I smell cooking?
BTW N da intrest of apeelin to da broadrst audiance on dis 4um, da
originl post hade 8 uniq mispellings with won repeet (Austrialia).
Tongue in cheek.
<<Present reality seems to be that this business can either become a
production industry or a show industry... or some balance between
the two.>>
The combination is inevitable; all other livestock industries have
evolved into that. Other than entertainment there really is little
use for a "show industry" unless it is at least partially used to
select out prime breeding stock.
<<The value of raw fiber on the world market is MISERABLE!>>
Let's take lessons from other commodity sellers. The sellers of the
commodity or their associations must take measures to expand the use
of their commodity and create some basis for intrinsic value. Oil
and cotton come to mind as examples common in everyday life in
America. What does AOBA's marketing program for China look like?
<<In an era of synthetic materials, it's going to take a strong
effort to get the word out about the values of natural fibers and in
particular alpaca fiber.>>
BINGO you get the prize! Most synthetic materials are made from
petroleum and if we mount a PR campaign around alpaca fibers unique
properties (strength, warmth, light refraction, hype-allergenic)
along with ways to commercialize this uniqueness, we should be able
to expand worldwide demand.
<<No, we need to begin thinking on a national and international
scale. Where and how can real, substantial markets for our fleece
(and the interim and end products of that fleece) be created,
sustained and supported by those who raise alpacas.>>
How many billion Chinese people are there that live in areas that
are at least cold enough that a nice turtle-neck made of 50% alpaca
would be an affordable status symbol? Has anyone seen the TV news
reports of foreigners buying Mercedes? Almost everyone likes status
and pays for it. How many Chinese, Bulgarian, Russian, etc., etc.,
are there that are willing a few dollars US for status symbols. Tee
shirts all over Asia sell for substantial more if they have
lettering in English on them. Add a brand logo and the price goes up
even further.
The barbeque thing was appropriate because in marketing they
say, "sell the sizzle".
