RE: [AlpacaTalk] Looking for Advice About Selling My Alpacas

If you are more interested in them having a good home, I would suggest checking with other farms.  At ten years of age and not show quality, unless they are very easy to handle and can be used as 4H projects, I don’t think you will have much luck selling them for more than a couple hundred dollars, if that.

I have been offered males free of charge on many occasions.  I normally do not take them unless I really have a use for them- their color or fiber can improve my herd in some way, or my daughter wants to show them in performance classes.

If it was me, I would advertise for someone wanting a pet and fiber animal.  If a good home appeared, I would probably give them away.

Subject: [AlpacaTalk] Looking for Advice About Selling My Alpacas

Hello I hope someone can give me some advice. I am considering selling my two male alpacas. I got them from a friend and have decided I prefer my sheep and I just don't like working with alpaca fiber as much as wool. I don't have any idea what I should charge for the guys since I got a deal from my friend. They are about 10 years old. One peach colored one red colored. One is intact and the other is not. They have nice fleeces but are not show quality confirmation wise. I have papers for them. I want to charge enough that I know the person really wants them and will be committed to caring for them but I'm not looking to make a killing on them.

If anyone could give me any advice I'd welcome it.
