[AlpacaTalk] What are we to do?
I have not been getting posts from this chat site for some reason.
Checking tonight I am reading the posts and yes coming very late to the party.
We too have had the same thoughts as you all are voicing. I/We, yes I will blame hubby too went alpaca wild in 5 years. Initial 8 to over 100. The cost of hay, feed, maintenance and lack of sales has really hit us hard. We looked and throwing up our hands and saying we made a really bad choice.
We then invested the time, money and travel to attend the Course Broad Fiber sorting class. This opened our minds, our thoughts and gave us a brand new lease on the alpaca business. Our breeding program is restructured. The Co-op shows you that you can make money or at the very least break even with your alpaca fleece. A new awakening for us.
We are very enthused with this new information and feel like we are finally on the right path.
Everyone needs to make their own decisions but if you want to continue in alpacas and think you can hold on a bit longer.... Get yourself to one of those sorting classed they hold. We personally think this is the future of alpaca.
If you want to call and talk more please do.

P.S. I have no relationship with the Course Broads, their course or the co-op that I will benefit one way or another if you go or not. I just am sharing how great we think it was and what it has done to rejuvenate us.
