Re: [AlpacaTalk] RE: corn/beet pulp
Laurel:
I have to agree with you about the corn and other 'stuff'. I personally (just me, just me - all must do what they think best) feel like balance and moderation is the key to just about everything in life. As a kid I remember a scare going around about cranberries causing cancer or something..........this was in the late 50's early 60's.........My grandfather loved cranberries and simply said that if he ate them morning, noon and night to the exclusion of all else, he figured he might get cancer, but he ate a balanced diet that included cranberries in the fall and winter. He laughed as he dished another helping of cranberries onto his plate. I think that's a good way to look at most things these days. Granted, I don't like that I consume a lot of chemicals, but the flip side is that as our ag practices currently exist, it's how we're all able to eat at a reasonable cost. Things could be changed for the better, no doubt.
My alpacas get the same feed that Laurel feeds and have for probably 6 or 7 years now. They're all fine. They also get a little cultured yeast and a little flax meal 2x day...I have one skinny girl that's always been skinny and she gets a little beet pulp in addition to what everybody else gets. They all seem healthy, I've only had one really bad delivery, never a problem getting them pregnant, and there's sometimes more energy out there than I can deal with! I'm going to continue to try to keep balance and harmony in all things and let nature work as she always does, sometimes causing a problem here or there....and know that in some cases, I can do nothing to change an outcome......and when that happens for the worse will continue my mantra from Jimmy Buffett -- Breathe in, breathe out, Move on...

Thanks in advance,
