Maybe his eye needs flushed? What ever scratched it may be under the lid? I know a hair can get under the lids of any animal and people and cause a lot of weeping and irritation. I helped a girl friend one time by finding a tiny hair protruding from the inside corner of her eye and when I started pulling it out...it was one of her own hairs wrapped two or three times around the whole outer eye!! My goodness, she said it was like a rock had been lifted off her eye! I would think your boy has something under the lid that may be irritating it. I would think all the weed seeds they get into could cause a problem! Just a thought!

Subject: [AlpacaTalk] eye problem
I treated this boy earlier this summer for well over a month for a
scratched eyeball - with atropine and tobramycin prescribed by the vet.
She said it should clear up in a few days.....not. He had much weeping
and discharge from that eye. After about a week to 10 days it finally
started looking a bit better; weeping less. I would stop the drops and
within a few days he would be squinting again and I would restart the
drops for another week. Finally after about a month to 6 wks it
appeared to be all better.....no squinting, no weeping. Now a couple
of months later he is holding that same eye partially closed most of the
time. This time there is no weeping/running. I did the drops again
for about a week, but have stopped. The eye looks healthy to me and I
just didn't feel like the drops were the right way to go so I have left
him alone. He doesn't hold it half closed all the time. But still
something is just not right. Maybe just sensitive to the bright sun?
Tho he does stay in the shade most of the day it is still bright out
there. But for a month or two after the last bout he was not squinting
this eye, and it was just as bright outside as it is now.
