Re: [AlpacaTalk] Minerals / Copper

I suppose because it is an essential nutrient. It is only required in trace amounts, but deficiency is as dangerous as overdosing.

Farms that are on drylot or where pasture grass is limited, the feeds must have some copper added.

I should use. I wanted to know if these farms are concerned about copper. I thought it was a simple question-but no one answered it

I guess we should all not discuss anything we do at our farms at all, then. If anyone has a question, ask your vet.

I appreciate you bringing up the subject, really.  But the exclamation points are getting old.

I will do better research regarding copper, and will have labs run on the one girl I am feeding broodmare supplement.

I do know that alpacas require more copper than sheep…….closer to goats but not as much as horses or cattle, so if I feed anything not labeled for alpacas, I will avoid those labeled for cattle and probably horses, too.

            Thanks for bringing this up.

To anyone out there with skinny animals, please disregard my advice to feed Calf Manna or Broodmare grains.  While it appears to be working for us, I would not want anyone to have negative results due to my ignorance.

No one seams to get my question!!  I want to know why people are adding more feeds that are not made for Alpacas & those other feeds have added copper in them!!!!WHY ARE PEOPLE DOING THIS?Then they freely advices others to do this .I know all about feed, hay, pasture, minerals. .My herd is fine---BUT i am concerned about all these Pacas that are getting all the extras that are not made for alpaca and they have ADDED copper!!!
