No, it won't hurt the immune system. That isn't the problem with Naxel and Exenel. What the vets say is that they wipe out the intestinal flora, so that makes digestion difficult. I have found that to be true with most antiboiotics, though. Since crias are not born with their guts pre-populated, it isn't an issue with newborns. 

After reading a paper on colostrum that desribed a study on the efficacy of alpaca, llama, and bovine colostrum, I am very happy to get powdered bovine colostrum to have on hand during birthing season. The study shows that bovine colostrum was nearly as effective as llama or alpaca colostrum. And, it's very much more economical than alpaca or llama, or even fresh goat colostrum. And you don't have to worry about freezing and thawing.
