Re: [AlpacaTalk] What's new? [1 Attachment]

Hi Jennifer,
I'm not a vet, nor do I have veterinary training except what I've learned in my dozen years caring for alpacas. But I do read a lot, and I do research on subjects related to their care so that I can be as informed as possible.

The paper I mentioned is actually regarding camel crias, and it is in the "Attachments" section of this group website. I just did a quick search on dried colostrum and found a study conducted by UC Davis in the early 90s. The study did show that IgG concentrations are lower in calves who received powdered colostrum, they did not have an increased death rate and they had similar weight gain as the calves who received fresh colostrum.
