[AlpacaTalk] re: sick cria update

:(( Oh I am so sorry!
It is so hard when they are so little, everything happens so fast, and we always look back and regret and wonder and beat ourselves up... it's all a part of being stewards of these creatures.

This is not to say that we still don't do all of the above- BUT that is one reason I never hesitate to get the vet out- even if the previous results were bad- at least a doctor is calling the shots along with me.  I had to work hard with our 4 horse vets to get to the point where we are are now, where I can question and disagree and have a long back and forth, and pull out all my books- but all the work it took to get to this point is SO worth it in the end.

I remember one time in particular where we here did EVERYTHING the vet- and my gut- told us to do, we even had the cria living in the house with us for a while, we worked on the baby 24/7 for three weeks and she still didn't make it.  The pain of losing her was just excruciating... but I took great comfort from being able to discuss why what we all did didn't work with our vet, and hearing her tell me I did everything right- even though the outcome was horrific- helped a lot with my healing.

I hope that you are able to heal and look back on this without regrets- hugs for you my friend!

Well our little guy did not survive. On necropy his stomach was full of fiber and he had a huge air bubble in his large intestine. Not sure what all that means. I did not ever see him chewing fiber other that the normal rough house play the cria's do. Very sad for us all.
