Re: [AlpacaTalk] Dogs? Coyotes? killed my only 3 females alpacas left, help with any information
Wendy,
I am in Hohenwald TN but when I lived in New York I had the same thing happen to me by two pit bulls. Coyotes only kill for food and would not leave the animals behind or would have eaten what they could. I know it is hard now but you need as many pictures of the scene now so if you can prove who own the dogs you can take them to court and get them to replace your girls. In my case the dogs did come back so you may have to be watching for them.
I had insurance and yes you should be covered but in my case when they heard we hired a lawyer and were going after the owners they jumped right in and we had to pay back what they gave us so I know longer have my animals insured. I figured if I have insurance and something does happen and I have to pay them back why have them insured. And yes I did win in court so do what you can to collect all you can now.
I lived in hell for the first year after the attack. I started with 8 and only came home from the hospital with 3 so that first year we never left them alone. Someone was always home and we locked them up at night and it was still hard.
Sorry for going on but this is something that should never happen if people would just keep their dogs under control. If you need more information on what you should be doing or just to talk feel free to give me a call Wendy. Time will make it easier.

I have lost 3 of my females in the last two years. One to cancer, one to undeveloped lungs, and one to a throat abcess. Sometime last night I lost the last three females that I had left. I went out and ones throat was tore open, and the other two were chewed on the rear end. Was this dogs? Coyotes? I don't know what to do. The vet said it was probaly dogs, the cops said it was probaly coyotes. These animals were a huge part of my life. They were not only my only hope of retirement, they were a huge part of my heart. I loved these animals so much. I am so heartbroken I can barely stop crying. I had llamas in with them and in surronding pastures. I still owe money on these animals and I don't have anything left now of my dream except for my 2 males. I am sorry to keep going on. We are self employed and my husband said there was no way to replace them. My dream is gone because of some dogs or coyotes. Thank everyone for any info in advance and for
listening. God Bless.
