[AlpacaTalk] Re: free choice question
Hello Pam
We free choice Orchard Grass Hay 24/7 and have no issues. In fact
everything I read says this helps reduce acidosis. Supplements
other than hay are limited to recommended dosages.
None of the animals over eat the hay. We work at replacing after all
is gone just as a cost control measure, and insuring they get fresh
hay.
Pastures are a little different. We find that they do over eat in
the spring when they go fresh on pasture, but this tapers off as
summer arrives and the grass is not as lush. They balance out but do
utilize rotational grazing, limiting the amount of area they graze
especially in the spring.
Hope this helps, Michael
