[AlpacaTalk] HAPPY UPDATE ON My Boy Won't Eat Grain :-)

Hello all :-)  This is a happy follow-up to a post from a few weeks ago about my 5 month old who wouldn't eat grain, as some of you kind folks had asked that I keep you updated....

Guess who has been in the creep feeder CHOWING on grain for the past 4 days?

A few days ago the farm manager went out to the barn and heard my boy carrying on (she knew it was him because he has the most unusual "voice" - he doesn't hum, but rather makes bleating sounds more like a lamb...weird!).  He was in the creep feeder!  She stopped and held her breath, watching to see if he really wanted to be there, or just got "lost".  He then turned around and started eating what was left of the grain.  Apparently was miffed because the trays were getting low, because he then looked at her and started hollerin' again :-)  She refilled the bowl, he stopped crying, then dove into the grain and CHOWED!  Ever since that incident, he has been a happy visitor in the creep feeder and all he wants to do is eat grain.  And - if the trays start getting low, he starts his loud bleating again - go figure!

We really don't know what happened.... we took him to the vet, but she refused to give him a Vitamin D shot.  She did give him some other vitamins and took blood (results still not back).  The farm manager also tried to test mom for milk, and since she seemed kind of dry she had been bottle feeding him for a few days.  Then all of a sudden - BLAM-O, stuffing his face in the creep feeder!  Who knows...!

These alpacas never cease to amaze me...and they keep teaching me new things with each problem and worry they cause.  Gotta luv 'em!

Best wishes to all, with show, shearing and another birthing season coming upon us :-)

Best,
Pia
