We haven't considered it, I've just read too many horror stories
about freak accidents that it's just not something I want to deal
with. Well, honestly, the first horror story was one too many. :)

As far as "our" coyotes' actual proximity, I'm not sure they come
closer than the wooded area across the street and way across a huge
pasture. Sometimes their howls sound very close, but I can't tell how
close they actually are. I'm actually more worried about the
neighbor's dogs that we sometimes see roaming down the road.
