Re: [AlpacaTalk] Need advice ....
Hi Carla:
2 dogs. Maremma were bred in the Alps to defend flocks against black bear & wolves.
They work as a team.
Do at least a 5' fence and maybe even an outside perimeter with a high & low electric
strip.
We have a beautiful female and a nine month old male(he's pushing 160 lbs) He's going to be a brute.
When raised with livestock Maremmas, if pressed, will defend them to the death.

Subject: [AlpacaTalk] Need advice ....
Hello everyone....
We have a large farm about an hour away...but no one is living
there..so we decided that we live on two acres ..on a mountain over
looking the city....only saying this so you know we live about 5-6
miles down to a large city...well occassionally we have heard...
(heard never seen) that some of our neighbors have had bears..med
size that raid their trash cans at night..some have said that we dont
have deer up here because of them...who knows..we have lots of
racoons and rabbits...with the beautiful trees it would be
perfect...dry lot...
We had started to build a chain link fence around the acre, than
stopped because of this...i'm not sure a dog would chase away bear
would it?
I have thought of boarding a few..but would love to have them close
to enjoy!
What would you do? I love these animals so much..but would never ever
put them in danger..
Thanks
Carla Martin
