Free Alpacas Newsletter- How to Profit from Alpaca Farming

Re: [AlpacaTalk] More questions

I¹m in Maine....we have grass from June-Sept :)

I buy local hay, orchard grass primarily.

There is fresh Hay available 24/7 for all the alpacas though on the super
hot days, I do limit. They don¹t need any extra heat generated when its over
80.

I supplement with a mix of Poulin Alpaca Maintenace, Blue Seal Alpaca
Maintenance, Blue Seal Fiber Nutrients.

I personally don¹t like automatic waterers because I think the bowls get
dirty, and the water can sit too long. I have running water in my barn, and
prefer to keep buckets filled. I carry hot water out in the winter several
times a day. However, other farms love their auto waterers. Never use
garden hoses they breed bacteria.

My grain buckets are on the ground, and I keep my hay in large portable
large buckets on the ground. I try to mimic the grazing as much as possible.
To date, I have not seen anyone else do this, but I think it makes sense.

Halters call Jane up at Ridge Mist Llama and Alpaca Supply
1-800-24LAMAS. Out of NewCastle, Maine.

For vet supplies - I usually check these three....
Valleyvet.com
Kvvet.com¹
Jefferslivestock.com

Equipment - www.lightlivestockequipment.com Talk to Jay

And Ebay ---- I just bought a microscope and centrifuge so I can do my own
fecals. Bought a $500 centrifuge for $75.

Hope this is useful :)
