Re: [AlpacaTalk] response to John
John,
Sorry if I confused your comment.
Yes, donations are different. I agree. I didn't realize the difference was
so important to Heather and so I went back to clarify sponsorship versus
donation. However, when you are paying $5,000 for something you know isn't
worth close to that amount because it is a fund raiser for AOBA, it "feels"
like a donation and I would think most benefactors do it to help AOBA
because no, they don't get their monies worth. That doesn't make
benefactors bad guys. It makes them good guys as does, in my opinion,
every level of sponsorship regardless of the amount.
John, I'm not familiar with the ins and outs of all the various
sponsorships and I'm aware that we all have to pay for things now that they
didn't have to pay for before. It "sucks." I get that. No one likes it.
I don't either! I'm not challenging that. I'm challenging that the fact
that although we are unhappy, it still doesn't make it right to make up
stories about people and things that aren't true because you and I are
unhappy about higher bills or something else. As a matter of fact, it
detracts from the message of the person doing the fabrication. Imagine how
you'd feel if the subject lines read: "AFCNA Misconduct" over and over
again when you honestly felt you were working your butt off doing the best
you could for AFCNA? Still, I have no doubt that if you asked any Board
member a question, they'd answer you...the same as you would answer for
AFCNA.
It's okay to question why and what....it's okay to get angry when fees go
up or if things feel unequal. And it's okay to ask our leaders
questions...
ARI Board, you must admit that I always answered every question the best I
could and I did NOT see questions as bad nor as an attack. But, the
comments here "feel" and "look" different, John. I don't see how anyone
can justify making up stories that aren't true because they are angry about
something else. I was taught that such behavior is lying and it's not
okay. If we can just stick to the facts and avoid accusing people of doing
things that we have no idea or proof that they have done, or heaven forbid
will do, then all sides to any particular argument would be able to listen.
We should ask questions...
you, John) When lies are told or situations fabricated, it takes away from
the original message and all voices get shrill as all feel down-trodden and
misunderstood and maligned.
Thanks for you comments.
I think we've beaten this subject to death but hopefully, there is better
understanding of positions all around. I'm finished trying.

That would have been me, Libby, and to the best of my knowledge there
is not resemblence Heather and I, though I will admit I have never
met her in person ;-)
To set the record straight, you suggested that these were donations
being made by the benefactors, which of course most of us knew not to
be the case. Your use of the word sponsorship gets closer to the
truth.
The fact that access to the member list was ended (there was a time
when various alpaca shows I have been affiliated with used to
purchase the member list for promotional purposes) for the general
membership, and then offered to "sponsors" galls some people. Sure
shootin', it's a high price to pay for a member list and a $900
bronze statue, but for some it is a sign of inequity.
Can we acknowledge that is how some people feel?
The perception, in itself is not an attack on the Board. It is a
statement of how at least some of the membership (both current and
former) feel.
If their perceptions can not be acknowledged, then there should be
little surprise that their voices get shrill. That is a common
reaction from peple that feel patronized or otherwise invalidated.
They want to be heard - not corrected or convinced but listened to.
