Re: [AlpacaTalk] AFCNA

Good points, Elden. When you talked about knocking on AFCNA's door for assistance, it reminded me of when all the talk was about the small town local stores being run out of business by WalMart. They tried to get the word out about what was happening and that they could not buy their products for what WalMart bought their's for. Shoppers like lower prices, so they let these poor people lose their businesses in favor of a big concrete monstrosity that pays its help poorly and pays its vendors poorly too. I realize that AFCNA isn't quite on the scale of Walmart, we have just a small industry and we can't even get our fiber spun into yarn cheap enough so that we can make products to sell to enable us to stay working from home.

Sad state of affairs.

Just one AFCNA member's opinion here: The co-op is being run well, they have
the most complete financial disclosure to the membership of any of the
national alpaca orgs that I'm aware of, the BOD has done well in pulling the co-op
out of a dismal financial position, they have GREAT products that other
processors and producers would love to copy (so no, I don't want very much, if any,
processing/production info given out), and at this point the AFCNA is the best
bet we have in establishing a process by which all of the vertically added
value will be shared by the co-op members. Nothing else in place or on the
horizon even comes close. I have no interest in any process or organization that
makes me a price taker at world commodity fleece prices.

Anyone is free to develop their own "better mouse trap". But those anyones
don't need to be knocking on AFCNA's door for assistance. I know very little
about Elwin and whatever producer operation he is trying to develop. I wish
him well. But........do we want the president of Pepsi setting on the BODs at
Coke?
