[Alpacasite] Transfaunation?
Hi List,
I have an older gelding (9 years old) who is not eating. At first he was
just not eating grain, yesterday I noticed he was mouthing his hay, but not
really eating it. He has no fever. He has had some diarrhea alternating between
soupy, ploppy, and soupy again yesterday. I'm giving carafate, probiotics, and
peptobismal for diarrhea. I checked fecal and saw nothing. He is holding some
cud in his cheek like his tooth is bothering him. He has done this tooth
thing before and the vet came and filed the sharp edges on the tooth and he seemed
better for several weeks, but is now doing it again. I feel no swelling. I
will be calling the vet again this morning, but was wondering if any of you have
done a transfaunation yourself. What is a good source of rumen juice? (I live
in southern NJ and don't know of any slaughter houses in this neck of the
woods.) I have a pregnant female who is nicknamed "Spitzilla" when pregnant. I'm
sure I can easily induce her to spit up some good juice, but what would be a
good way to collect it? Anyone tried that? Once I have some rumen juice, what
would be the best way to administer it to the gelding? Any ideas much
appreciated. Thanks for your help. Alice
