[Alpacasite] Re: Pet Quality Definition

Dear Chris,

I know of several breeders who have blue-eyed white FEMALES (no
males) in their breeding program and they only breed them to solid
colored alpacas (no white alpacas) who have no white spots and who
have all solid color in their backgrounds. They have done well in
producing solid colored cria, and yes, even rose grays. But, some
solid colored alpacas can have a ring of blue and/or gray in their
eyes. I have 2 with that, that are black with a couple of white
spots. They also have a lot of gray in their background. Because of
that, I would not recommend breeding them to a white alpaca, for the
chance that a blue-eyed white may result. I would also not breed
white to grays for that reason too.
This is just my opinion and what I have seen other breeders do.
