[Alpacasite] Re: Dog attack!

A friend breeder of ours also lost some alpacas to a neighbors dog
attack a couple of years ago. The dog dug several feet under the
fencing during the night to get at them! When the breeder found his
poor alpacas, the dog was wandering around an empty pasture trying
to figure out how to get into the next one. The breeder called the
owner of the dog who promptly came over and shot the dog. The owner
said that it was his wife's dog and never liked the thing anyway and
was glad to have shot it!
Around here, we shot first and ask questions later. There are a lot
of dairy farmers and horse ranchers around me that do not think
twice about shooting something they think will threaten their
livestock.
I am always on the look out for strange animals, especially since
there's 350 acres of woods behind us. We own lots of different types
of guns, and I even carry one when I work in the barn, since the DEC
released coyotes into our area this past summer. Unless one can put
up 8' stockade fencing that also goes 3 feet down and electric on
top of that, I don't know what else can be done.
I feel for the people who lost their animals. It is definitely
heartbreaking. It's even harder when compounded with other problems
as well. Please give them my sympathies!
