I got two tons of what we call "coby bales" (40 pounders) last month
here in Oregon.
The larger bales are more economical for the growers. Roughly the same
amount of wear and tear on the equipment per bale, so the big bales
end up costing less to put up. And with a squeeze they could care less
how much each bale weighs individually. Heck, their picking up 2 or 3
tons at a pop with their hay squeeze, and setting on the back of a
semi.
Cowboy bales are getting hard to find. I commonly see 150 pound bales
up here.
