[Alpacasite] Re: Inner Ear Infection

Thank you Alice and Rachelle,
Yes, we did do a culture of material the vet at OSU was able to
collect from the outer ear canal, but the culture grew 10 organisms,
so not definite enough to use as a diagnostic. At that time, one
recommendation was a more agressive antibiotic treatment, but my
thought was that we had been down that route, with seemingly little
sucess, so that is why I opted for the homeopathic route.

Since we are indeed dealing with an inner ear, not outer ear canal
infection, the use of ear flushes has not been considered as a
viable option to this date.

Since she has been off antibiotics now for six weeks now, I wonder
if that might not be an option again, but most of the vets I am
talking with are not optimistic that would do the trick.

Thank you also to all the others who have contacted me offsight.
There is a wealth of information out there in the alpaca community.
I'm sorry for the error in my email address in the first post.
That's what happens when one doesn't proofread. :-)
Thanks again,
Linda Buttolph

It is another good antibiotic that we have seen used in lingering
infections like this.

so we used drops to keep it moist as he couldn't close it all the

the infection. Perhaps your baby's ear canals are even smaller than
the average alpaca? That does happen in humans (take me for
example, can't even equalize under water)
