[Alpacasite] Re: $205,000 Female

I have been keeping track of the average selling price (not taking
into account the crazy over 100k ones) at alot of auctions, and it
looks like the selling average is about 27-32k. This seems to match
what I have from 2 years ago, when I started in alpacas. The mean
average is going to drop, but very slowly, as more alpacas are born
each year, slowly infusing the market with more animals to buy. Farms
are going to realize that if they want to bring in more NEW
cumstomers, they are going to have to compete with the farm "down the
street". If I have a 1/2 Peruvian, 1/2 Chilian true black female for
sale and so does farm "X", and the fleece characteristics are very
similar, who is the newbie to buy from?! The farm with the slightly
lower price, better financing and other purchasing incentives. If show
judges have a hard time telling 3rd place from 4th place in a bunch of
yearling black females, then Joe Shmoe newbie sure as heck won't be
able to tell. So Mr. Joe will most likely take the best deal.
What the future holds in the way of prices, fleece markets and
other aspects is all what we make of it. What we do now will affect
what happens later. As the old saying goes "What goes around, comes
around". Let's just hope that when it does come around, we don't get
bit on the butt!
