[AlpacaTalk] Re: The Children's Act for Responsible Employment (CARE Act, HR 35

<<<Farm raises strong, responsible, and intelligent kids with a very good ability to deal with life. Take that away as this RULE does and you diminish opportunity for kids as urban has.

The RULE was put on a slow burn yesterday but was not dropped.

I agree wholeheartedly with your excellent post.
When I decided to start my family I purposely changed my entire life, left the city and bought a farm so that I could raise my children with a work ethic not commonly found any more.   It has worked out beautifully.  My children are mature and responsible way beyond their years and quite capable.

I am not sure where the info in the letter that Heather posted came from but it was contrary to everything I have read and heard about this bill, er rule, or whatever the heck it is....who knows anymore with so many regs coming from every direction from the feds the past few years.....esp aimed at small family farms/growers....but I digress.

What I heard on the radio yesterday was that BO backed away from this in less than 24 hrs because of the uproar.....from small family farms, and that he has publicly stated this will not be readdressed as long as he is in office.   I have read many posts over the past few weeks some claiming that it does not in any way affect family farms and some saying that it will destroy family farms.   I have not read it and do not claim to know.   All I know is the feds are sure determined to get up in our business every which way.  I also heard during the same news report that 4H and FFA would have indeed been done away with (a point that has been hotly debated on line) and replaced with a federal training program that was supposed to replace these two long standing entities.

All I can say is watch your back by watching out for your fellow small farmers.   Esp if you raise free range heritage hogs that have a certain hair color - I don't, but they are making inroads.  They may come after *your* livestock next!  First it was sheep, now hogs....don't think they won't be looking at your chickens or your alpacas next.

Janice, sick to death of gov't regulation and still expecting NAIS to make a comeback sigh
