RE: [AlpacaTalk] bedding

Lysa,
We have dirt floors, also. I have used pine sawdust, in the past,
but haven't in awhile, so our floors are dirt and whatever hay they
spread.........and alpacas being alpacas, are very wasteful with the hay, so
they are usually on top of hay all the time. I don't think pine shaving
would hurt them. If they have to reach up for the hay, that might cause eye
problems.

I have a barn with a dirt floor and have been using pine shavings in the
stall as they love to poop in there.

I only have rescues and do not show them so I don't mind that it gets in
their coats, but wonder if there are any problems with
the shavings? I am treating one for an eye infection and some sort of foot
problem.

What do you, who have dirt floor barns use if anything?
AND, do you think the shavings could be the cause of these problems?
