Hello,
I would like to add how I wash my fleece. I only do small amounts at a time. I use salad spinners. I have 3 of them. I fill the plastic tub up with hot water and some Dawn dish soap. I fill the basket up with fleece. I gently put the basket of fleece in the plastic tub of water and let soak for about 15 to 20 minutes. Then I lift up the basket and drain out the water. I then fill the tub part with fresh hot water, and gently replace the basket full of fleece. Sometimes I press down on the fleece gently. Then take the basket of fleece back out and replace the dirty water with fresh hot water. I do this several times until the water is clear. Then I use the salad spinner to spin the water out. After that I gently remove the fleece and put in net laundry bags and hang ouside to dry. I use clothespins to attach the bag to something and let it hang in the sun. This has worked really well for me. I use my fleeces, both sheep and alpaca, for needle felting. I got my salad spinners at thrift stores for $2.00 to $5.00 each.

I am so glad you started this conversation! I have been worried about washing my fiber. My sister tried washing some of her best fiber and she ended up with dreadlocks!! You couldn't pull the fiber apart! I like the comment using plastic totes? I don't have a wire basket, but I have those cloth mesh pop up laundry bags. I have some that are short and rectangular with cloth handles. I bet one of them would work great for putting the fleece in and lowering it into a large plastic tote and the lifting it out for the rinses! I will give it a try! I want to learn handspinning, but have been afraid to wash my fiber. Great tips everyone!
Thanks
Jody
