Marsha and Flossie, HI!
Flossie, don't' forget the MOST IMPORTANT information---: Once you put the dirty fleece into the hot water solution: DO NOT MOVE IT AT ALL. Just set the timer for 15 minutes and walk away.
The procedure is : make the solution, put the fleece into it gently---walk away.
15 minutes later, set the fleece in a colander while you rinse out the sink and refill. If it is still really dirty use more dawn and do the solution phase a second time.
After the next 15 minutes, put in colander and refill sink with only hot water---put fleece in to rinse it---don't move it around---use another 15 minutes on the timer. If it is not yet soap free---do this also a second time, but use about a teaspoon of human hair conditioner in the final rinse.
You can use as many rinses and washes as you think you need---but NEVER move the fleece around no matter what, once it is in hot water. If you move it you will have felt and not fiber.
When it is finally cool to room temperature in the colander---you can then put it into an old pillow slip, take it outside and spin it around your head to get out a lot of the water. Then take it out of the pillow slip and spread it out to dry.
Choose an airy place with good circulation ---I use a sweater dryer screen over the bath tub and spread it out gently. Don't dry in full sun, bright light is OK. Do not move it around until it is dry---except maybe to turn the wet part up.

Hi Marsha, I used to use Dawn dish detergent but now use Orvus Paste which I buy at the feed store for less than $20 for a large 7.5 pound container. I soak the fiber in hot water with a few ounces of Orvus (I don't measure, just take a scoop with my hand) for 30 minutes and then rinse a few times.

Do you clean/process your fleece yourself? If so, I would like to ask how do you get the white fleece nice and white? I'm fairly new at all of this and would love some input from those with more experience than me. Thanks to all that share their knowledge on this.
