I know that this corn myth has been going around for years. I have fed straight cracked corn to provide extra calories in winter, also straight oats, and the alpaca feed we have been using for nearly 10 years has cracked corn in it and we have NO issues. Neither have the 30+ folks that I know who use the same feed.
There are some who campaign strongly against corn and that is fine as long as it is based in facts. A diet of only corn would not be good, but neither would a diet made up of only alpaca pellets. The one issue I will acknowledge with corn is the potential for aflatoxins being in some corn, however, responsible mills only use corn that has been tested free.
