Re: [AlpacaTalk] New babies

Congrats, Laura! Life is good, isn't it? The crias are both the best and the worst about breeding!!! You can go crazy with concern and worry, but......when they're healthy and thriving, there's nothing better. I'm so glad that you are enjoying the little ones and learning along the way, too --- these guys are absolutely the most wonderful creatures in the world.

Subject: [AlpacaTalk] New babies

You may remember my post regarding Sumiko, our EPE girl from CA that arrived last Nov.1 and weighed 115 lbs---pregnant with 3 ½ mo old cria at side.  On August 29th she weighed 164 and her due date was Sept. 3rd.

WELL……….Sumiko gave birth to a 14.5 pound male cria on Monday Sept.6th. (she took the holiday LABOR Day quite literally!)  The cria is mostly white with fawn ears, top of head and along his back.  He is very active and nursing vigorously.  Sumiko had LOADS of milk the day he was born………unlike our maiden girl who had none for two days.

She is a wonderful mother and very attentive to him.

The day before, our older Suri gal, Manda, gave birth to an 18 lb girl……..white and fawn, also.  Sexy Sadie is up and running circles around everyone.  Manda is a milk cow and Sadie weighed 21.8 on Thursday (4 days old)  She is tall and long legged, too.

I was so worried about these older girls for no reason.  Manda had hers while we were gone and Sumiko had hers early in the morning before we got up!  Both unassisted.  They are veterans and I'm not!

So, between our May cria, Magnolia and these two, we have three white crias running around.  This is what I waited for……….alpacas grazing in the pastures with their crias running around.

            Life is good.
