Re: [AlpacaTalk] AlpacaNation - repost and correction of unfortunate typo
Thank you Ellen! That was very kind of you, and I appreciate your feedback. I enjoy trying to make my pages very personal and to keep my alps current (although, like everyone else, I sometimes fall behind too). AN has been very good to me over the years, and I hope that Heather is able to work out the glitches so she is also able to enjoy those free benefits.

Hi Judith,
You are currently at the top of my AN favorite farms list because you updated your pages yesterday! Your farm pages are fantastic, really enjoyable to look through. Like the way you have it put together, and saw that you offer raw fiber on/under your main page as well as many creative services. It was inviting and you are incredibly talented!
Also, per the beginning of this thread when Heather was experiencing a frustrating time with her AN account, that is sad. I have to say that I am really grateful to AN for offering me the opportunity to utilize some AN services without cost. So, absolutely no, I am not tired of AN. I am grateful to them for including me!
Thanks,

That's good to know. I hadn't heard about it, but I suppose I wouldn't have paid much attention anyway since I am a subscriber and all that comes with my membership. Heather, I apologize for bad info!

Hi Heather,
I am one that has a free membership with AN. I cannot have certain things, like a webpage with farm description and alpaca listings, but I can save favorite farms, possible herdsires and herdsire searches, favorite alpacas, and it gives me the weather in my home town, all on "my AN" page. It is nice and it is free. I am not allowed a farm page, and there are other things I can't utilize, but it works for me and my budget.
Wonder if you are having trouble because you switched over from a paid to free membership?
Maybe someone needs to double check your account to make sure it has been switched over? Or you could just open a new free account? Don't know, but you are right, there are free memberships, because I have one.

Judith, I do believe there is a new membership tier, where one can join to take advantage of the MyAN features as well as to send emails to member farms, which does not require the $250 membership fee.

Heather, AlpacaNation has always charged for being a subscriber (as opposed to the Forum, which has always been free to anyone, whether or not they owned alpacas). You must have joined at one time or another and paid the annual listing fee of $250, or you would not have had a page at all. If you prefer the free listings at OpenHerd or whatever the other one is (I don't recall offhand, but I know there is another common site), then it would make no sense to renew with AN. But this isn't something AN just implemented; it's had the same annual fee (based on farm size) for as long as I've been a member, and that's been probably 6-7 years or more.Judith KorffLadySong Farm Bolivian Suri AlpacasMusic to Your WalletRandolph, New York 14772Cell: (716) 499-0383

Is anyone else getting seriously tired of AlpacaNation?
I used to have an account there. $250 per year, to list my farm and my small herd. It is my understanding that anyone can "be a member" or have an account, to utilize the "My AlpacaNation" utilities including saving animals for sale, farms one likes, and herdsires, as well as searches saved. Well, I could no longer afford the $250 per year in addition to the regular ISP and web hosting, so I switched to OpenHerd last year.A few months ago, when trying to log into my AN account, I was told it has been suspended because I haven't paid my "membership dues". And today, when I tried to add an animal to my "likes" list, I have been told that my account was suspended again. What's going on? Really, with OpenHerd being free to list your farm and animals, why on earth would I spend $250 or even $150 to list them at those other sites?Maybe those other guys ought to take the lead from the new guys. You get your bread and butter from the banner ads, poster ads, rotating ads, etc. Let people have their darned accounts for free or almost free!
