Re: [AlpacaTalk] Fleece pics

Definitely huacaya, but I can see where it might be confusing.  It does appear to have a bit of twist to it, but the whole lock twists rather than the wrap-around twist that suris have.  Maybe this will help: Pretent your hand is a single lock.  Hold your hand up, open the palm and then turn your hand sideways.  The whole "lock" twists.  Now hold your hand up, keeping your fingers together, bring your thumb in and twist your fingers toward the center of your palm.  If you have any dexterity at all (hard for some of us at our age), the fingers will start to wrap together.  That's the individual "fibers" twisting.  Now turn your hand.  That's the lock twisting.  You have twist within twist.  That's why suri is so dratted hard to card and why combing works better.  The twists are internal as well as external.

Ok, here are the pics of my little girl, just about two months old.

Her dam is huacaya, her dam's dam is huacaya from two suris. Not a
cross.

Cria's sire is 100% huacaya, as is her dam's sire.

Is it possible that she could be one of those almost mythical "chili"
alpacas?

Jim, I agree, she seems to have awesome fiber. I have no doubt that
fiber artists will love it. I'm looking forward to her first clip,
actually. How great would that be, the tactile qualities of suri, but
the ease of care of huacaya?
