That is an excellent question and a good thing to research.  The calf manna has a min of 15ppm copper and a max of 35ppm.

            Dr. Evans Minerals have 400ppm

I need to look at the label on the horse feed, but it is for gestating or lactating mares, not senior horses.

Thanks for bringing this up---the copper levels are definitely something to consider.

I am talking about all the senior horse feed, calf manna, sweet feed that people are always talking about using.I use sheep minerals that have selinium but lower copper.I have know many people that have lost alpacas from copper toxicity. After one farm lost 3 alpacas confirmed deaths by necropsy we pulled blood on several animals in the herd to to see what the copper levels were.Luckly mine came back fine.T

I have only used Stillwater 104 for our alpacas.

Dr Van Saun says that alpacas are not especially prone to copper toxicity, and from what I've read, there is more concern over copper deficiency. Also, camelids require much higher selenium levels than other animals do, so we stick with the Stillwater 104 which has a good selenium level.
