Re: [AlpacaTalk] birthing question
Wendy, I'm SO sorry. I hope Viccoyo is okay and that it wasn't too bad an ordeal for her. Breeches are always (I believe) stillborn because they drown in the placental water (I'm sure there's a correct term for it, but I can't think of it offhand) while their head is hanging down inside. At least, I don't know of a live stillborn and my vet told me that's what happens.

Wendy, I have to run out on some errands that need to be done but feel free to call me on my cell if you want to talk! (716) 499-0383. Good luck; I'll be thinking of you and Viccoyo, poor gal. At least if she's not acting uncomfortable, the baby's not in a bad position even if it may be breech. She'd be screaming if something was hung up inside.

hi Judith - i called the vet and he will be here in an hour - Viccoyo doesn't seem distressed and lays down to eat hay in between standing and having contractionsbut the vet said "breech" when i described the situation - unfortunately we don't have a vet in town and he is coming from a distance - luckily it is his day to visit the valley, as he only comes once a weekthis poor girl is so thin - i don't know how much energy she has for birthing - or for feeding a baby if all works out wellit is SO GOOD to have someone to talk to about this - i'm a nervous wreck - thanks so much for respondingI'll let you know what happenswendy----- Original Message -----Sent: Wednesday, May 19, 2010 8:00 AMSubject: Re: [AlpacaTalk] birthing question
Wendy, I'd call the vet. That may herald a breech birth. I've only seen it once, and it was followed by a normal delivery but it isn't typical and I'd get veterinary input ASAP.
