Re: [AlpacaTalk] Advice

Hi Susan,    Did you speak with the show committee about the 3"?    Seems like it must be an oversite in the writing of the rules.....huacayas are only required to have 2" in the fall shows.  Why would there be a difference?

We put on a southern CA show and don't get that many full fleeced suris.  I really wish AOBA would change to the 2" length, it would attract a lot more show entries.  It really makes me seriously consider having non-AOBA-affiliated shows.

I can see if you have cold winters leaving fleeces on but it gets 115 - 120 here and the poor things would just roast.  Luckily, alpacas are such adaptable creatures - we have a sprinkler timer that comes on 5 times a day in the heat of summer (belly-high) and they all go get their bellies cooled off.  Never had a heat stroke yet - knock on wood.  We don't breed for summer month births, only spring and fall.  I hate putting cria blankets on and off so we avoid winter births too - the velcro sometimes sticks to their fluffy cria fleece and they end up hating me - anyone else have that problem?
