We shear them ALL, huacayas or suris because it just gets too darn hot here.  In our weather, it is just cruel to leave any fleece on them.  I take as much as possible off.  We have already sheared all but five of our herd and those will be done soon.  I had a problem with them not having the required 3" of fleece to show in the fall when we sheared in May and tried to contend that with AOBA.  It is healthier here to shear later in May because it is still so hot in October/November.  I don't think its fair to the alpacas to have a required 3" of fleece for the fall shows.
