That's a great idea, too, Laura! And if you can get your hands on old railroad ties, those would work great, too. I have no idea what the cost on those would be. Of course that would vary by region.

            My husband installs a 4 x 4 post under our gates…..anchors with rebar.  It creates a narrow gap between the gate and ground……enough to keep chickens in their yard and no digging out by anyone.  Easier than concrete, imo. (maybe cheaper, too)  Good luck.  My Pyrs have never tried to dig out but our male does get super excited/agitated when a motor cycle or four wheeler drives by and my fear is he will go OVER the fence.  So far, so good.  He is  18 months old.
