RE: [AlpacaTalk] fencing/gates

My husband installs a 4 x 4 post under our gates…..anchors with rebar.  It creates a narrow gap between the gate and ground……enough to keep chickens in their yard and no digging out by anyone.  Easier than concrete, imo. (maybe cheaper, too)  Good luck.  My Pyrs have never tried to dig out but our male does get super excited/agitated when a motor cycle or four wheeler drives by and my fear is he will go OVER the fence.  So far, so good.  He is  18 months old.

My Great Pyrs have started escaping (6mos old). They are digging under
the gates. The hot wire, which is on the outside, is not stopping
them. It is not hot enough to phase them once they get that excited and
that close to freedom. I don't want to run it on the inside because of
the alpacas. I keep piling up concrete blocks as as temporary measure
until I have time to figure out what to do.
Heather, do I recall that you once talked about pouring concrete under
your gates? If so, could you elaborate please?
Thanks! Janice
