RE: [AlpacaTalk] fertility issues another situation

Thanks Peggy,
I usually am a hands off kind of gal but  wouldn't you now know it.  My three best females have given me nothing but trouble this year with breedings.  These two I just described and another gal that kushed fast.  Spit off's all along and no cria.  Turns out somewhere along the line she lost the cria then developed a uterine infection shown by fluid on her U/S.  Jeezzzeee!   Gotta Love them they really do teach you observation and patience skills.

We have a couple of girls that love up the male when they are breeding another female but will spit him off/run if he tries to mount them. They US pregnant.  We have another female that is always mounting a female when cushed by a breeding male.  She will not allow any one to mount her or sniff her, she US pregnant.  We also have a couple of young maidens that are mounting each other but have never been bred.  They are not pregnant just hormonal.  So, odds are if they will not allow a breeding, they are pregnant.  Some girls are very hormonal but usually they will not allow a breeding if pregnant.  Most stop this at the 2nd trimester.  T

Let me thow another fertility question at you.  I have two females.  One older and one maiden.  They both have positive progesterone test  2 wks ago for pregnancy.  The older dam still runs from the male and she usually kushed fast so I think she is pregnant.  The young maiden does not cush really fast but follows the male around like a puppy dog and will rub his neck with hers if he is doing another breeding.   Sunday the older gal was mounted on top of the younger maiden as if breeding humming as loud as she could.    She still runs from the male and the younger gal still follows him around with sad puppy eyes.   What do you guys think?  Pregnant or not?    We will do another PG test and u/s.

Heather - just a thought - could her twinning have something to do with being bred multiple times since they are induced ovulators?  If she were mine, I would breed her just once and see what happens.
