[AlpacaTalk] Need another perspective
I was wondering if anyone had a fresh perspective for me, I am exhausted and you know what that can do to your brain :)
Okay, here's the situation:
11 year old due next month female. She is *extremely* easily stressed, and has delivered prematurely in the past due to stressors. Taking her to the vet at this point will induce labor and leave us with a preemie and even having the vet out to do an exam here is risky (not to mention it will cost us upwards of $200 just to get her here).
She is huge- even for her and she carries big babies.
She is eating- vigorously, drinking, peeing and pooping normally. It is not too hot today, yesterday it was. Very active fetal movement.
She is VERY predictable in her labor behavior, we have had her since she was a yearling. There are two things she always does; her teats get full- very full, even when she delivered early- and she lays on her side sort of propped up, delivering laying down. She also rubs her face in the hay *instead* of eating it.
Right now she is doing this weird sort of thing, where she turns around like a dog before laying down and sort of rocking on her side, ending up propped up. No rolling, no pushing. Just this sort of... thing. I noticed it yesterday afternoon and she is still doing it- between eating everything that isn't nailed down. She is rubbing her face in the hay, *and* eating it.
I have seen her turn a baby before, it *could* be that (once she did this and looked like she was going to deliver, football bulge and all, did it all night then jumped up and went another 2 weeks before delivering). This is a little different. She is breathing more heavily- not labored per-say but just a little heavier than the other late term gals. This gal runs chubby, she always gets into shape after nursing her crias, but then gains a lot during her pregnancy.
She is undoubtedly uncomfortable, but the cria is big, and yesterday it was laying sideways- oy.
So..... what do you think?
