Re: [AlpacaTalk] Summer Heat
Our alpacas also like to sunbathe in the sweltering heat, even when the sprinklers are on. Once in a while we'll see a few at the sprinkler, but mostly they're sunbathing or in the stalls eating hay or napping. I'd say ours split the time between the sun and the stalls.
I have a question.
The situation: It is hot here today. 97 in the shade. Only about 15% humidity. I have the swamp coolers running in the barn. I brought them all in from the pastures because our trees are still sticks and provide no shade. Around the barn they all have access to shade, the barn, fans and two swamp coolers running in the barn. A few cria and older gals like laying in front of the coolers but more than half of them are out sun bathing! What's up with that? Am I the only one really hot? I have been worried about them and the heat but they seem quite fine.
